WES HOFFMAN & FRIENDS RELEASE Second album, and it is ‘FOR THE BETTER’

Wes Hoffman & Friends have returned with their new full-length album, For The Better, released through SBÄM Records. The record marks another step forward for guitarist and vocalist Wes Hoffman and a now-solidified lineup that brings together melodic punk, Midwest pop-punk, skate punk, and emotionally direct songwriting.

Formed around Hoffman’s songwriting, Wes Hoffman & Friends first began taking shape in 2017 before releasing their EP, Rewrite the Story, in 2022. The project continued developing through the band’s subsequent release leading to the bands debut full length in February of 2024, ‘How It Should Be’.
For The Better, Wes Hoffman & Friends sophomore album, a record that finds the group sounding more confident, cohesive, and deliberate in its approach.

Across ten tracks and approximately 36 minutes, the album delivers a melodic but energetic take on punk rock. Hoffman & Friends balance driving guitars and big choruses with the rougher edges of punk, creating a sound that remains rooted in the genre while allowing plenty of room for melody and emotional weight.

At the heart of For The Better is Hoffman’s knack for writing songs that feel personal without losing their immediacy. The album paints emotional uncertainty as a larger backdrop for songs about conflict, hope, and trying to find a way forward. That sense of balance is also reflected in the band’s musical approach. The record moves between the raw urgency of punk and a more polished melodic sensibility without sanding away the grit that gives the songs their character. The result is a collection that can carry the energy of a punk show while remaining firmly focused on songwriting.

The band’s current lineup features Jacob Boyd, Luca Torretta, and Hes Retnu alongside Hoffman, giving the project a more established identity as a full band. What began as Hoffman’s vision has developed into a cohesive four-piece capable of delivering the hooks and emotional punch at the center of the record. The album was recorded with Gabe Usery at Encapsulated Studios, with mixing handled by Trevor Reilly of A Wilhelm Scream and mastering by Joe Reilly. That combination brings considerable punk experience into the production while maintaining the clarity needed for Hoffman’s melodic songwriting to come through.

For The Better builds on the foundation established by Wes Hoffman & Friends while pushing the project toward a more focused version of its sound. The band’s punk roots remain firmly intact, but the new record demonstrates a growing confidence in melody, dynamics, and emotionally charged songwriting.

With SBÄM Records behind the release and a fully established lineup now in place, For The Better represents the latest chapter for a St. Louis band continuing to carve out its own corner of the melodic punk landscape.
