London reggae syndicate The Skints return with “Pressure,” the second single from their upcoming album, Sour Tooth via Easy Star Records. The track follows July’s “Home,” giving listeners another glimpse into a record that promises to move through a wide range of sounds while maintaining the band’s unmistakable identity.
Where “Home” leaned into the energy of a ’90s alternative sound, “Pressure” takes a darker and more relentless route. The new single carries a more ominous weight, offering the sounds of the Skints you may know them for, yet highlighting the musical variety The Skints are bringing to Sour Tooth.
Together, “Home” and “Pressure” establish two very different sides of the upcoming album. Rather than locking themselves into a single sound, The Skints use the two singles to showcase the breadth of their approach — moving between alternative rock energy and heavier reggae-driven territory without losing the character that has defined the band.
The Skints are a four-piece reggae band from London whose self-described sound is “music from Jamaica in a London style.” Their music combines reggae, ska, and dub with elements of grime and hip-hop, connecting the musical traditions of Jamaica with the streets and culture of their hometown.
After their 2008 EP and 2009 debut album Live, Breathe, Build, Believe, The Skints progressed from playing squats to larger stages, developing their sound and building an increasingly international audience. Their second full-length, Part & Parcel, expanded that reach, while their 2015 Easy Star Records debut FM became a critically acclaimed release and helped accelerate their presence in the United States.
The band subsequently toured extensively in the U.S., sharing stages with acts including Sublime with Rome, Tiger Army, Tribal Seeds, Easy Star All-Stars, The Interrupters, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones & Flogging Molly. Their extensive live history has helped establish The Skints as one of the UK’s most recognizable modern reggae acts.
“Pressure” was mixed by Fumiati “Superman” Ogata at Tuff Gong in Kingston, Jamaica, with mastering handled by Jeff Mortimer at J-M Mastering in London, England.
With Sour Tooth on the horizon, “Pressure” adds another piece to the picture — a darker, more relentless track that demonstrates just how much ground The Skints are prepared to cover on their next record.
