East Bay trio Charger has announced its new five-song EP, Last Call, arriving October 23 via Pirates Press Records. Leading the announcement is the first single, “Breakout,” giving listeners an early taste of the band’s latest collection of high-octane, Motörhead-inspired rock ‘n’ roll.
Recorded at Studio 2200 in Sausalito, California—formerly the legendary Record Plant—the EP was engineered by Chris Dugan, capturing Charger at its loudest and most dynamic. The sessions showcase bassist and vocalist Matt Freeman, guitarist Andrew McGee, and drummer Jason Willer, whose combined backgrounds in Rancid, UK Subs, and Jello Biafra & The Guantanamo School of Medicine continue to shape the band’s unmistakable sound while allowing Charger to stand firmly on its own.
The new record also welcomes several notable collaborators. Kephera Moon, formerly of pioneering Swiss krautrock outfit Brainticket, contributes keyboards to both “Rolling Thunder” and “Breakout,” adding an unexpected layer to the EP’s heavy, riff-driven approach. Meanwhile, Lars Frederiksen (Rancid, The Old Firm Casuals) and Wayne Lozinak (Hatebreed) make guest vocal appearances, with Frederiksen also earning co-writing credits on two tracks.
The physical release receives equal attention, featuring striking cover artwork by Santos presented in a deluxe gatefold package. Fans can pre-order the EP on Ruby Ghost, Blue Smoke, and Blood Red vinyl variants, alongside CD and limited cassette editions.
Since releasing their self-titled debut EP, the standalone single “Watch Your Back,” and the acclaimed full-length Warhorse, Charger has steadily carved out its own identity while sharing stages with heavyweights including High On Fire and Agnostic Front. With Last Call, the East Bay trio continues that momentum, delivering five new songs built for fast roads, loud amplifiers, and no compromises.
