The Slow Death prepare to release full-length album, ‘Yesterday’s Numbers’,

Minneapolis punk veterans The Slow Death are preparing to release their sixth full-length album, ‘Yesterday’s Numbers‘, on November 20, bringing together more than 15 years of songwriting into a record that finds the band exploring a different side of its musical personality.

For a band that has spent years moving between punk rock clubs, tours, and constantly shifting lineups, The Slow Death have never been particularly interested in standing still. Formed in 2009, the group has released five previous albums and toured extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Japan, and Australia. But Yesterday’s Numbers takes a different road, leaning further into classic soul, rock ’n’ roll, Americana, and old-school group harmonies than anything the band has released before.

The record expands The Slow Death far beyond their often three-piece touring configuration. Frontman Jesse Thorson assembled an eight-piece lineup for the album, bringing together musicians from across the Minneapolis scene and beyond. Joining Thorson are his wife Annie Sparrows, along with Kat Naden and Saumer Kinsey of The God Damn Doo Wop Band, Sam Beere and Luke Lecheler of Nato Coles & the Blue Diamond Band, Dylan Richie of Teenage Strangler, and Shawn Walker of Gay Witch Abortion and Chooglin.

The result is a record built around soulful vocals, throwback harmonies, blistering guitar work, swirling organ, and a rhythm section capable of taking the band’s rock ’n’ roll instincts wherever they need to go. The songs were written over a period of more than 15 years, giving Yesterday’s Numbers the feeling of a long-delayed project finally finding the right cast and the right moment.

The album’s origins stretch all the way back to 2010, when Thorson recorded a demo of “Opposite of Jesse’s Girl.” His friend Ryan Young of Off With Their Heads heard the recording and encouraged him to write an entire album in that vein. More than a decade later, that idea has finally become a finished record.

The album also represents a particularly personal chapter for Thorson and Sparrows. The couple operate Don’t Sing, the Minneapolis label co-releasing Yesterday’s Numbers alongside Young’s Anxious and Angry. Sparrows contributes vocals and co-writing to the album while also helping run the label, making the release a project that reaches well beyond the music itself.

For The Slow Death, that independent approach is nothing new. Don’t Sing has already released the band’s No Light To See, a split between The Slow Death and UK punk band Rivalry, and Panel’s A Great Time to Be an Empath. Yesterday’s Numbers now becomes the latest release in that growing catalog.

The record also continues The Slow Death’s long tradition of pulling musicians from different corners of the Minneapolis punk and rock scene into its orbit. Over the years, the band’s famously fluid lineup has included members and collaborators such as Mikey Erg of The Ergs and Paddy Costello of Dillinger Four, reinforcing the idea that The Slow Death has always been as much a community as it is a fixed lineup.

Alongside the album announcement, the band is premiering “Gonna Be A Riot,” the first single from Yesterday’s Numbers. The dark, driving track takes its lyrics from the 1967 film Riot on the Sunset Strip, giving the first taste of the new album an appropriately rebellious edge.

Yesterday’s Numbers was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Andy Mathison at TreeSpeak Studios in Minneapolis. The album will be released digitally through Bandcamp and streaming platforms, while the physical edition will arrive on black vinyl limited to just 300 copies.

The Slow Death will celebrate the album’s release with a hometown show alongside Off With Their Heads on November 28 at the Uptown VFW in Minneapolis.

After more than a decade of waiting, rewriting, touring, recording, and putting it off for another day, Yesterday’s Numbers finally gives these songs a home. For The Slow Death, the sixth album isn’t simply another punk record — it’s the long-awaited realization of an idea that has been hanging around since 2010, now brought to life by a room full of Minneapolis musicians who clearly know how to make a hell of a racket together.

YESTERDAY’S NUMBERS BY THE SLOW DEATH ARRIVES NOVEMBER 20, 2026 VIA DON’T SING AND ANXIOUS AND ANGRY RECORDS.
