Rocketsuit Rogue, the new guitar-driven punk rock project led by former Zebrahead frontman Matty Lewis, continues the countdown to its debut album Hello, Apocalypse! with the new single “The Best Last Day on Earth.” serves as the latest preview of an album due August 21 via Double Helix Records and SBAM Records.
Following previous singles “Our Last Parade” and “Home Sweet Home (Sweet Misery),” “The Best Last Day on Earth” further establishes the cinematic direction behind Rocketsuit Rogue. Lewis combines soaring melodies, massive choruses, and emotionally charged songwriting with inspiration drawn from vintage science-fiction films, survival stories, and classic end-of-the-world cinema.
At the center of the project is a simple idea: finding hope when everything feels uncertain.
“‘The Best Last Day on Earth’ is about finding hope when everything feels uncertain,” says Lewis. “It’s about appreciating the people around you, embracing the moment you’re in, and choosing connection over fear.”
That philosophy runs throughout Hello, Apocalypse!, transforming the larger-than-life imagery of science fiction into a backdrop for deeply human stories. Rather than focusing solely on destruction, Rocketsuit Rogue uses the apocalypse as a metaphor for perseverance, connection, uncertainty, and the search for meaning.
The album was produced by Cameron Webb, whose production credits include Pennywise, Motörhead, and NOFX. Together, Lewis and Webb have shaped a collection of melodic punk anthems that balance huge guitar-driven arrangements with the emotional directness that has long defined Lewis’ songwriting.
For Lewis, Rocketsuit Rogue represents a significant new chapter. During his years with Zebrahead, the songwriter and performer earned international recognition, an RIAA Gold certification, and extensive touring experience. Lewis performed more than 900 shows across 26 countries, building particularly strong audiences in Germany, the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, and the United States.
After leaving Zebrahead in 2021, Lewis stepped away from the band before returning to songwriting in 2025. That renewed creative period ultimately became the foundation for Rocketsuit Rogue and Hello, Apocalypse!.
While the project marks a new beginning, Lewis’ approach remains rooted in the qualities that have defined his career: memorable hooks, emotional honesty, energetic performances, and a belief that music is ultimately about bringing people together.
The result is a collection of rocket-powered punk songs built for both personal listening and communal release—music designed for packed clubs, festival stages, and anyone trying to find something hopeful in uncertain times.
