In a musical event bridging generations, the legendary ska-punk outfit Sublime announces the release of their first album in almost three decades. Titled Until the Sun Explodes, the album marks a new chapter for the iconic trio, now fronted by Jakob Nowell, son of late Sublime frontman Bradley Nowell. Set for release on June 12 via Atlantic Records, the LP promises to honor the classic Sublime sound while opening the door to modern musical explorations.
The title track and lead single, Until the Sun Explodes, is an emotional homage to Jakob’s father, blending melancholy and uplifting melodies that evoke the golden era of 1990s ska-punk while asserting a new identity for the band. Drummer Bud Gaugh notes, “This song expresses the gratitude we all feel as well as our intent for the future of our band and the music we love.”
Recorded over the past year in San Pedro, California, the sessions feature guest appearances from punk stalwarts Fletcher Dragge of Pennywise, the legendary H.R. of Bad Brains, FIDLAR’s Zac Carper, and G. Love, ensuring a rich tapestry of sound that connects past and present. “The whole album came together rather effortlessly,” says Gaugh. “We like it to be natural, not composed and enforced. We didn’t forget our roots.”
Fans will also recall last year’s single, Ensenada, which became the band’s first No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart in nearly three decades, cementing the album’s highly anticipated arrival. The track listing spans twenty-one songs, featuring collaborations, surf-inspired grooves, and nods to the band’s original era.

Tour dates accompany the release, with shows at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, festival appearances in Fort Worth, Portland, and Salt Lake City, and international stops in Australia, New Zealand, and Europe. The Sublime Me Gusta Festival will showcase classic hits alongside the new material, providing fans both nostalgia and forward-looking energy.
